    Hi all,

I'm an animator/motion editor and I've had alot of interest from studios in europe, especially eastern europe.

Since I've only ever worked in the UK I'm not sure of how much money I should be asking for. What I have earned in the past hasn't been particularly low nor amazingly high here in Blighty so I'd really like some opinions on what kind of money I can expect to be offered in places like Germany or Poland.

I imagine Germany is much different than Poland, first of all :) In Poland it also depends on the city, Warsaw is the most expensive, but salaries are the highest as well. For really comfortable living you'd probably need around 20k pounds (going with current conversion rate).

Germany is cheap to live in compared to most of the UK but expect to see an alarming amount of your paycheque disappear before it gets to you. I'd say that the cost of living here is approximately 75% or so of most places in the UK outside of London. I've been here more than a year now and it still amazes me when I fill up my cupboards with a weeks worth of groceries for 20€.

There is a German tax calculator that will give you some idea of what your take home will be depending on your domestic situation and gross salary.

Many thanks to you both for your replies, a little insight goes a long way.
