IGNORE

If you can't agree with someone we have a handy feature here at TCE called 'The Ignore List'. If you find that you and a certain someone are constantly bitching at each other to the detriment of the forums then maybe you should think about using this feature.

Click on the name of the person involved.
Along the top of their user profile you should see an option add them to your ignore list.

Please, I fucking implore you all.
Do it. Do it now.

Why is this topic blank?

Did the prof write anything important here? I can't tell because he's on my ignore list.

Brian Beuken14-04-2009 02:58 PM

who said that?

Bitterman14-04-2009 04:25 PM

The bizarre thing is that there seems to be a number of people whose opinions I respect to a greater or lesser (but above zero) degree who appear to absolutely hate each other and won't let it go. Which seems strange to me because, seperately, they all talk a certain amount of sense.

I say let's spread the love. Some combination of "the ignore button" and "forgive and forget" can bring joy to the world and peace to TCE!

There's also a "Post Reply" feature, which, in cases of heated debate, should not be used.

At least not without a few deep breaths/cups of tea.

Oh how I wish it were socially acceptable to walk around the world with my fingers in my ears, ignoring all the people that I just don't want to listen to any more. Would be so much more peaceful.

I was talking to a friend who's arrived on TCE about whether or not they should post under their real name rather than a pseudonym. I asked them why they wanted to, and they said they thought it might lend weight to their argument about a certain company. To which I replied: "it might, but why is that important? For all it's relevance and high signal to noise ratio, it's still just an internet forum. Nobody 'wins' here. It's just talk. Talk with a bunch of people you mostly don't know."

If you're getting really worked up about getting your point across to the other people on this internet forum, there's something wrong, and it has nothing to do with the discussion being had. Chill out, take a step back, and remember that not every post needs to be answered, not every ignorant statement needs to be called out, and not every discussion needs to end in a consensus.

ditto, I know a fair number of you miserable bastards...Its quite amusing watching some of the people I know having digs at each other and clearly not knowing who the other is....because in real life I know they would be quite easy going.

I always just thought you had a gay crush on me, given the inordinate amount of thanks I get from you....

Bitterman14-04-2009 09:29 PM

There's a groan, then. Better now? :p

playground groaning now huh... next you'll be neckin behind the bikesheds.

Dredge14-04-2009 10:00 PM

I have nearly 1800 thanks. A good third of them are from Bitterman, I would suggest he needs to do more than neck, he better put out.....

Bitterman14-04-2009 10:11 PM

Waaaaaaaaait a minute. A third of your thanks received would be fully half of my thanks sent. I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Something doesn't add up here...

<edit> and it's my maths. Not half of my thanks sent at all, about a fifth. What can I say, I'm a liberal thanker! Dredge is still exaggering though...
